Projects, may cause excessive swearing

Wed Jul 15, 2009, 8:37 PM
Yesterday I began a new knitting project. I'm knitting a Gryffindor Year One House scarf similar to the ones that the kids wore in the first Harry Potter movie. This is an experiment to see how I do with the project. So far so good. It is my very first project knit in the round.

Since I started it I've already had my husband and my niece mention that they'd like one/want this one. I'd planned on doing several of these. However I plan on taking some short breaks in between each scarf. There will be more of them. In fact I'd originally planned on making one scarf for each of the four houses and then beyond that taking requests from friends and family as to which house scarf they'd like.

In the mean time I'm also planning a much larger project, The Dr Who scarf as seen in season 12 of the original Dr. Who series. See the info on the scarf here: http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com/ I'm so glad that there are others out there more obsessive about things than I am -namely the knitter who created that site.

I am to make the Dr Who scarf for my husband. I've read that the scarf measures 13 1/2 feet when complete. I suppose that it would have to be that long since it has to touch the floor even when wrapped once around the wearer's neck. My husband is 6 feet tall. This is potentially a very loooong project.

I mention this project here because my husband is fully aware that I will knit him this scarf, someday. He is also aware that I will knit him one, if not several, Harry Potter scarves. He would be very much deserving of something knitted by me. Since I've knit him nothing in the over a year that I have been knitting. I know. I'm a bad wife. However there is some reasoning behind why I've not knit him anything. He's seen some of my pattern books and he has chosen things. Very difficult things to knit. I have to wait until my skills are at a point where I can actually knit the projects that he's picked out.

For any knitters who read this: he's chosen a men's pullover sweater with a large intarsia pattern on the front and a complex illusion knitting scarf involving a three needle bind off. The bind off would not be so hard, it is the knitting of the scarf that will cause me to excessively swear.

I told my sister that certain projects need a tag line warning that reads "May cause excessive swearing" on them.

In other news, I'm still looking for work with at least one tiny prospect.

In other random news I now have beeswax. Yay for farmer's markets and bee keepers. This means, as soon as the weather is cooler I'll make some candles again.
